BIO
Devin currently works full time as director of Piedmont Discovery Center where he handles all leadership and outreach aspects of the business. Devin is the founder and principal investigator of the Piedmont Grasslands Assessment, a research initiative that finds and documents old growth, pre-colonial savanna remnants in the Piedmont region. He leads the effort to not only document these ancient grassland remnants, but also to educate the public about their existence and conservation. Devin, a prehistoric archaeologist, also aims to further investigatge and describe the remarkable history of their survival.

Devin provides expertise and leadership for inventory, monitoring, and management of natural resources for public entities in Central Virginia. With PDC he continues to be a pioneer in the 21st century environmental education movement, inspiring the next generation of stewards to build knowledge from the ground up, rooted in local cultural and natural heritage.

Devin spent his childhood exploring the wilds of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and dedicating uncountable hours to his passion: baseball. After baseball scholarship offers from Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, JMU and others, he pursued a degree in Prehistoric Archaeology from James Madison University while being an award winning scholar athlete. Devin’s dreams of a career in professional baseball were ended by severe medical challenges (rheumatoid arthritis and lyme disease), and he turned his attention to other passions. Devin’s professional path has been a natural history adventure, including work in archaeology, biological survey, technical illustration, restoration ecology. Devin is known for combining creativity and critical reasoning skills to solve problems. His experience, competitive spirit, entrepreneurial drive, and leadership qualities spear-headed the founding of Blue Ridge Discovery Center in 2007, Center for Urban Habitats in 2012, the Old Growth Grasslands Research Project in 2015, and Piedmont Discovery Center in 2022.
