Join Our Board!
Join Piedmont Discovery Center’s (PDC) Board of Directors to help advance biodiversity education and conservation in the Piedmont Ecoregion. This is an exciting time for PDC as we establish operations on 181 acres in Schuyler, Virginia. Join us to steward and interpret our all-native 10-acre botanical garden (known as Quarry Gardens), implement restoration ecology research, establish a native plant nursery, and host a growing array of public natural history programs across the arts and sciences.
What Board Members Do for PDC:
- Serve as vision and mission keepers
- Support strategic leadership, governance, and oversight
- Act as stewards of the Piedmont region’s natural and cultural heritage
- Represent and promote the organization
- Lead and support fundraising, working to ensure sustainability, growth, and impact
- Actively participate in Board meetings and PDC events
- Commit to 1-2 volunteer hours per month
We are interested in candidates that are aligned with our mission and core values, appreciate the unique nature of the work we do, have a passion for science and the arts, and are patient and tolerant of gradual, evolving, deliberate organizational development. At this time we also need candidates that have expertise with fundraising, nonprofit and real estate law, marketing, engineering, architecture, and financial management. We are looking for board member representation that reflects the diversity and breadth of the region we serve – the Piedmont region, from the Hudson River to Alabama.
As a Board member, you benefit from your service to the human and other-than-human community that comprises the Piedmont ecoregion. You become part of the PDC community. You witness how your passion and expertise benefit thousands of people through exploration, renewal, and celebration. You know you are making a difference.
