Second Saturday Music Series

September 13, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Katherine Nies is our featured performer this month. We’ll also be featuring live art by Chicho Lorenzo, as well as a lantern boat launch at dusk. BYOB and bring your own picnic dinner.

Featured Performer:
Katherine’s soul-deep passion for music traces back to early memories of her mother’s Peruvian and Puerto Rican folk songs on guitar and her father’s late-night jazz piano. These influences, combined with her love of Celtic traditions and folklore, have shaped a musician who blends classical, folk, and improvisation into a sound that feels both timeless and otherworldly. Her travels to Scotland and the Isle of Iona—an island steeped in ancient music and contemplative practice—deepened her commitment to music as a source of beauty, connection, and healing.
Bio:

Katherine Nies is a genre-blending pianist, composer, and storyteller whose roots run deep in jazz, classical, and folk traditions. Raised on a mix of her mother’s Peruvian and Puerto Rican folk guitar and her father’s late-night jazz piano, Katherine brings a soulful, improvisational spirit to everything she plays. Equally at home in a concert hall or an intimate jazz club, she’s performed alongside artists from Broadway, the Metropolitan Opera, jazz legend John D’Earth, and two-time Emmy-winning composer Christopher Tin at Carnegie Hall. In 2025, she was the featured soloist for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 with the Albemarle Symphony. Her recent projects span from symphonic collaborations and original ballet scores to indie releases like sweet blue, yellow silk, and storms in my attic—now streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.
